A federal order over how the leads were sold
In 2023 the Federal Trade Commission finalized a consent order against HomeAdvisor, Inc. — affiliated with Angi, formerly Angie’s List — requiring payment of up to $7.2 million. The FTC alleged that since at least mid-2014 the company made false, misleading, or unsubstantiated claims about the quality and source of the leads it sold to service providers. Note what that establishes: the platform’s core claimed competence, matching the right professional to the right job, was the specific thing a federal regulator found it had misrepresented.
