Keeping Your Home Safe For The Fourth Of July

undefinedFireworks

Injuries from fireworks happen every year without fail. Turn your focus toward safe usage and don’t be astatistic. Many of us don’t really think about the probability of a firework burning down our home or starting a massive fire, but it does happen and it could happen to even you. Below are some tips that will keep you safe and allow you to have more fun this year.

  • Drop all fireworks in a bucket of water before putting them in the trash. This will for sure snuff out any smoldering in the firework
  • Use fireworks outdoors and a good distance from your home
  • Light your fireworks one at a time to maximize safety
  • Test all of your smoke detectors so they can warn you if you don’t smell or see a fire
  • Make sure you have outside bubble covers on all of your exterior outlets
  • Have a hose readily available in case you need to put out a fire

Grilling

The Fourth is just not the Fourth without some outdoor grilling. Many of us have left our grills unattended or near flammable materials in the past, but all it takes is a few seconds for an accident to occur. Here are a few tips to stay safe.

  • Keep your grill at least 10 feet away from your home
  • Check for any propane leaks at the tank and fittings
  • Keep a fire extinguisher handy in case you need to put out a grease fire. Water does not work well on grease fires.
  • Check your C/O and smoke alarm before grilling

Home Security Cameras

Although the Fourth is for celebration, it is also one of the biggest days for break ins and crimes. Make your home security a priority. Lock your doors and windows and don’t give thieves a reason to break in (Like having a laptop in view from the window). It may be good to just close your curtains. For tougher security, try a security camera.

Well we hope you really enjoy your Fourth of July with family and friends this year. Follow these tips, stay safe and have fun!
